Solar feed-in credits explained

BUSTYA electricity bill guide

If your home exports excess solar electricity to the grid, your electricity bill may show exported energy and a feed-in credit. That credit reduces the amount otherwise payable on the bill.

Solar generation and export are not the same thing

Your solar system can generate electricity that is used in the home before any excess is exported. The export figure on an electricity bill therefore should not automatically be treated as the system's total generation.

How the credit is calculated

Where a feed-in tariff applies, exported electricity is generally multiplied by the applicable feed-in rate. Your bill should show the export quantity, rate or resulting credit in the provider's format.

Compare both usage and solar credits

A bill can change because grid consumption changed, solar exports changed, rates changed, or several of those things happened together. Comparing the underlying figures helps separate those effects.
